2025: A Year of Milestones and Partnerships
What a year it has been! It is fair to say 2025 has kept us busy with standout projects, deepening valued, long-standing partnerships and new opportunities. For this year’s recap, we want to highlight our incredible partnerships and achievements. So, enjoy a brief look back at some of the highlights that defined our year.
Design Innovation
During 2025, Smet has continued to push the boundaries of staircase design, taking on projects of growing technical complexity and technical complexity. From hybrid structures that combine metal and timber, to staircases that seem to be floating blocks of marble, our design team has been busy. We are incredibly proud to embrace these increasingly complex projects and to transform bold ideas into refined, buildable realities. We thank all our clients for allowing us to redefine our boundaries. Your confidence in our expertise and belief in our team allow us to continually innovate and bring your unique visions to life.
Television Centre Grandeur
Another key milestone was being appointed to supply and install over 50 stairs for the Television Centre project, which is the transformation of the old BBC studios. For the 17 townhouses, the staircase forms the central architectural feature within. Developed through close collaboration with MSMR, DMMR, Core 5 and Multiplex, and funded by Mitsui with Stanhope as client representative, the final timber stair design balances durability, elegance and cost efficiency. The tapered, fluid form with solid panel balustrades creates a refined focal point while meeting structural and building control requirements. With design now complete, production is scheduled for April 2026, followed by installation from June and completion by the end of the year. We have already supplied our clients with a mock-up sample, which was approved. We are proud to contribute our craftsmanship to such a landmark redevelopment.
Building Partnerships
2025 wasn’t just about beautiful staircases, it was about the people who make them possible. That is why we wanted to celebrate our clients and build even better partnerships.
In Spring, we invited our contacts for a Belgian Night. We celebrated craft and expertise, all while enjoying some Belgian beer.
In November, we hosted a spirited clay pigeon shooting day that brought clients and collaborators together outside the workshop, strengthening connections through shared experience.
We hope you enjoyed joining us on these days as much as we enjoyed hosting you.
