The Whiteley is one of Smet’s largest and most prestigious projects to date, involving the design, manufacture and installation of 44 bespoke staircases within the landmark redevelopment of London’s first department store.

Working closely with Foster + Partners, Finchatton and Valouran from the early design stages, Smet helped optimise the staircase design by developing an all-timber solution that simplified both production and installation.

Each staircase features French Oak treads, painted cut stringers and elegant curved handrails that complement the architecture while creating a refined and understated aesthetic.
